Below are some frequently asked questions about the Home Care PAC. For more information, please reach out to Kyle Simon, Senior Director of Policy, Advocacy & Communications, at ksimon@homecarefla.org or call (850) 222-8967.
1. What is a PAC?
A political action committee is an organization that donates funds to political candidates. The PAC operates within the framework of Florida law, similar to other interest group-related PACs. PAC members contribute funds, which are then used to support a bipartisan selection of political candidates, primarily those running for the Florida Legislature.
2. How do I become a member of the PAC?
To become a member, simply contribute to the PAC. Both businesses and individuals are welcome to join, and there are no contribution limits.
3. Why should I donate to the PAC?
Donating to the PAC amplifies the impact of your political contributions. The PAC consolidates individual donations into a more substantial fund, which often attracts greater attention from the receiving political candidates.
4. Where does my donation go?
Your contribution is combined with others and directed toward political candidates who advocate for in-home care for Floridians. The PAC is non-partisan, supporting candidates from both major parties and legislators of varying seniority levels across the state.
5. How does the PAC choose which candidates to support?
The PAC's Board of Directors considers several factors when deciding which candidates to endorse, including leadership roles, committee assignments, voting records, and their relationship with and understanding of the Florida home care industry. Our experienced political team may also assist in identifying candidates and entities aligned with our objectives. You can review the PAC's contribution and expenditure history here.
6. Can I request support for a specific candidate?
We encourage members to voice their support for particular candidates. Each request is evaluated by the PAC's Board of Directors. While we cannot guarantee contributions to individual candidates, your input is valuable and welcomed.
7. Can I split my donation into smaller amounts?
Yes. You can request a monthly invoice or sign up for automatic monthly payments.
8. What if there is an error on my invoice?
If you notice an error or require clarification about your invoice, please contact us at (850) 222-8967 or send us a message.
9. Are contributions tax-deductible?
Contributions to the PAC are voluntary and not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. The PAC is required to report all contributors' names, addresses, and occupations to the Florida Division of Elections for transparency.
10. Can I request my funds to support candidates from a specific political party?
No. Earmarking funds for specific parties or candidates is illegal, and the PAC supports candidates from various political affiliations.
